Social notworking

Social notworking. The practice of spending time unproductively on social-networking websites, especially when one should be working.

Who hasn't booked a flight, checked the weather forecast for the weekend and sneaked a few messages on their hotmail at work?

With the new technologies and the boom in the use of social-networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, LinkedIn, Twitter, the temptation for your fingers and mind to wander at your desk increases.

Many users are logging on to update their profiles at all hours, including in the office. From this the phenomenon
"social notworking" has sprung up. I've done it, haven't you?

Sneak
. Carried out in a clandestine manner.

Wander. To lose concentration or direction.
Spring up
.
To come into existence.

  1. what a good expression! of all, is the best for me, by now! how ironic and humoristic language can be, going as fast as the real world! Very useful with colleagues at work.. (Esther, an english student)

  2. That's right Esther, it's a great new term for this new phenomenon. Although companies are getting tougher on social notworking some people are quite addicted!
